During our tests, we discovered that the iRobot S9+ cleaned thoroughly and efficiently a range of floor surfaces including hard and medium-pile carpets. The dust bin should last for about 30 loads or a month and half. You'll need to replace the filter every few months (as suggested by iRobot). The iRobot S9+ is not extremely loud when it's operating making it a great option for families with children or pets.

Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

Created to take one of the most difficult tasks off your shoulders, robot vacuum cleaners take care of all the hard work of keeping carpeted and hardwood floors free of everyday debris. The best ones can be controlled and monitored using a smartphone app, and some even have mopping tech for kitchen and bathroom floors. They're an excellent choice for busy families, and they are becoming more affordable. If you're looking to get the latest technology in your robotic cleaner, then you'll have to shell out a bit more.

The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid is an all-in-one vacuum and mopping machine, making it a good choice for those in a flat with multiple floors. Its dual motors offer incredible cleaning power, and the vacuum's 0.6l dust bin can hold a lot of pet hair. The dustbin is easily removed and empty which is great as you'll need to do this on a regular basis.

It's also simple to set it up, although I recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid prior to running it for the very first time. You'll need to install the Eufy Home app and follow the instructions to connect to your Wi-Fi network. Once you've done this the app will help you to create a detailed map of your home. Rooms can be named, divide large spaces into sub-rooms (good for open-plan living) and guide the X8 Hybrid to specific areas that need cleaning at a given time. Other robots also have similar scanning and mapping functions, but Eufy's application is more refined and user-friendly than other models.

One of the best features on the X8 Hybrid is that you can activate the mop or vacuum using your voice, thanks to the integration with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. This is a nice addition that makes the robot even more hands-free. It also works well in our test house.

As with many robotic vacuums the X8 Hybrid has some issues with floors that are bare. It is prone to miss fur and small objects and is known to knock things like its charger on the charging platform. It is also not as quiet, and the whirring sound can be distracting as other models.

Roborock V3S Pro

This model doesn't have as many features as some of the more expensive models we tested, however it does provide the essentials. It has a large dust bin that can hold a lot of dirt before needing to be emptied. The vacuum and mop system is great for both carpets and hard floors with a low pile. It's also very quiet and we could watch TV while it was cleaning without feeling like it was blasting us with noise.

Our test subjects were impressed with how easy it was to install and use, and were amazed by its ability to take all the mess off their flooring. It even did a pretty good job of picking up pet hair and messes from carpeting, although it was not as effective in tackling stubborn stuck-on staining. The app was easy to use and user-friendly. It was able to schedule the vacuum to clean frequently to reduce the amount of manual work. The only downside is that it doesn't have any mapping technology or object avoidance technology, so you aren't able to send it to specific rooms or follow virtual boundaries (though magnetic boundary strips are compatible).

The V3S Pro is another model from the iRobot's budget line. It has several impressive features for an affordable price. It was the top robot vacuum in our tests to avoid obstacles and map them. It's also the best budget option for those who want an intelligent, self-emptying robotic vacuum that is able to handle pet messes and hair on hardwood floors or carpets with low pile. It's also quiet and has a huge dust bin that can hold plenty of debris before it's time to empty it.

The V3S Pro did not make it into our top choice lists of trusted sources who conduct hands-on tests, however it received high marks from Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. They appreciated how easy it was to install and use, however they did note that its battery life is short and it didn't manage to avoid some of the toughest mess we've put it through.
